Soft Entropy
Soft Entropy is a collaborative music project by Paul Bießmann and Jonas Sorgenfrei, situated somewhere between improvised electronics, experimental pop, ambient music and acoustic synergy. At the core of the project lies the encounter with changing musical guests, giving rise to distinct concert programs, studio sessions and audiovisual productions.
At the center of Soft Entropy is the search for a shared sonic space in the present moment: modular synthesizers, live electronics and acoustic drums merge with improvisational interaction, samples, voices and organic textures. The music moves between hypnotic repetition, atmospheric openness, club-like energy and fragile improvised passages.
Rather than functioning as a traditional band, Soft Entropy unfolds as an ongoing series of collaborative volumes — each shaped by its own musical language, constellation and visual identity.
Alongside live performances, the audiovisual documentation of every session forms an essential part of the project. Each volume is captured through live and studio recordings in both audio and video form, with the intention of releasing the material continuously in digital and physical formats.
With every concert and newly produced volume, Soft Entropy continues to evolve as an open network of collaborative productions — a platform for artists exploring the intersection of electronic sound research, improvisation and the collective shaping of the present moment.

Volume I — feat. Nicola Missing
The starting point of Soft Entropy is the collaboration with Amsterdam-based German vocalist and composer Nicola Missing. Known for her clear vocal presence, improvisational openness and genre-crossing approach between jazz, electronic music and experimental pop, Nicola approaches the voice equally as a narrative and sonic instrument.
As part of a Nuremberg Invite Series, the trio first came together for an initial session that, within only a few days, evolved into an independent concert program and an intense musical connection — ultimately laying the foundation for the entire project.
Nicola Missing’s voice moves between song, noise and texture: at times direct and intimate, at others looped, transformed or expanded through effects processing. Together with the modular sound landscapes of Paul Bießmann and the hybrid drum and electronics setup of Jonas Sorgenfrei, a fluid musical language emerges somewhere between experimental pop, improvised electronics and ambient soundscapes.
The audio and video recordings of the Volume I studio session are currently in production. The first audio release is planned for later in 2026.

Volume II — feat. Fernanda von Sachsen
With Volume II, Soft Entropy expands its collaborative approach together with Munich-based vocalist and composer Fernanda von Sachsen. Her musical language merges influences from vocal jazz, classical training and experimental songwriting. Lyrical melodies encounter expressive harmonies, angular rhythms and a distinctive narrative intensity.
Currently studying in the Dr. Langner Jazz Master program in Hamburg, Fernanda von Sachsen was awarded the Bavarian Arts Promotion Prize and the Kurt Maas Jazz Award in 2025, and is known for her genre-fluid projects moving between jazz, music theatre and improvised music.
The resulting session carries the open and improvisational spirit of Soft Entropy into a new sonic direction. The audio and video recordings of Volume II are currently in production.

Volume III — feat. Wanja Slavin
Volume III is already scheduled for November 2026 and will feature saxophonist and composer Wanja Slavin. The production will be presented through two concerts in Nuremberg.
For years, Wanja Slavin has been regarded as one of the defining voices of the European jazz and improvisation scene.
The award-winning musician works at the intersection of contemporary jazz, free improvisation, electronic music and experimental production practices. Through his own projects — including Lotus Eaters, Amok Amor and Libelle — as well as his work as a producer for artists such as Liun + The Science Fiction Band, Dexter Francis Mason and Marek Johnson, he has developed a distinct and unmistakable musical language.
With Volume III, Soft Entropy continues its exploration of musical encounters while opening the project toward yet another improvisational perspective.
